FAQs

What can I expect from a coaching session?

Typical coaching sessions are approximately 60 minutes long and online using Zoom or MS Teams. Every session is bespoke and led by you, focused on your goals and where you want to get to.

Sessions usually take place every 2-4 weeks and I’ll be as flexible as I can to work around the inevitable diary challenges of corporate life.

I’ll ask you to come to the sessions with a clear idea of what you want to focus on and be free from distractions so we can focus and get the most out of our time together.

The key thing to remember is that coaching is an investment in you. For you, your career, your life.  I will support and guide you, challenge you, provide resources and encourage action but ultimately responsibility for action sits with you.

Do I have to book a coaching package, or can I book one-off sessions?

Coaching works best when we have time to really explore what’s going on for you, breaking down the challenges and often limiting beliefs that are getting in the way, which is why a course of 6-sessions is typically the most effective.

There are times when one-off sessions can be helpful though. For those situations, I offer a one-off 90-minute coaching session. These are focused and powerful sessions which are helpful if you want to test out whether coaching is for you; you need support with a particular in-the-moment challenge, or perhaps financially it’s not the right time for you to invest in a full package.

Is coaching the right choice for me? What's the difference from counselling and therapy?

Whilst coaching, counselling and therapy are all focused on bringing about change there are some important differences. Coaching is all about looking forward to the things you want to achieve and is action-orientated in approach. Therapy and counselling are rooted in exploring the past and often deal with mental health and trauma, involving a very specialised set of skills.

I offer a mix of coaching and mentoring, using my own experience from 20 years in HR in large corporate organisations to help you move forward with the challenges you’re facing at work.

If you’re not sure if coaching is the right thing for you, let’s get on a free 45-minute discovery call and you’ll get a first-hand experience of how a coaching session feels to help you make your decision.

Where and when do you coach people?

Most of my coaching is done online using Zoom or MS Teams but there are times when face-to-face sessions might be more appropriate. If this is the case we can agree whether you prefer to do these in your workplace, or a more neutral venue.

Most coaching sessions happen within typical office hours, Mon- Fri 9am – 6pm but wherever possible I’ll try and be flexible to work around you if these times don’t suit.

I'm not a leader. Can you still coach me?

Yes. Whilst I typically work with leaders responsible for managing others, I have many other clients at different stages of their careers. Whether you’re just starting out, a technical specialist, returning after a break, thinking of career transitioning, or maybe heading towards retirement, I can help.
